EC 2016 Practice day 2

Dag 2 – vrijdag 22 juli 2016.
(English below)

Day 2 – Friday July 22nd 2016
This morning we woke up with rain, but also a nice temperature because of that. Breakfast was served at 7.15am; big bowls of scrambled eggs with sausage and bread, and some kind of warm lemonade wink-emoticon;) We could also get some coffee, something a bunch of people really needed. At 9am we had the first practice of the day, and in the meantime Peter went to buy a lot of water, and afterwards we (Peter and Patty) went to the store to buy a swimming pool, laundry detergent, and band aids. It’s a lot of fun to go to shops here, because almost no one speaks English or German. If you don’t understand what they say in Hungarian, they will start to speak louder and slower. That really helps!
At 12.30 we had lunch; bean soup and afterwards some kind of pasta with jam and powdered sugar!! It’s really funny to see the boys react to this food. After the lunch we went back to the airport again to pick up Charlie.
The temperature had gotten a lot higher, and when we got back to Püspökszilàgy Charlie could straight away join the second practice of the day. We filled the little pool with water and after practice the boys could cool of in the pool. Some of the players went back on the field to pass around some more.
This evening we had plenty of food. The people here are taking good care of us. And the atmosphere amongst the team is great.

EC 2016 Practice day 1

Dag 1 – donderdag 21 juli 2016.
(English below)

Day 1 – Thursday July 21st 2016
This morning we went back to the airport at 10am to pick up a lot of players and coaches. Assistant coach Ryan Phillips was the first one to arrive, and not much later two planes arrived with the majority of the players and head coach Neal Powless, assistant coach Ryan Demorest (Demo) and assistant coach Tom Thayer. Our other assistant coach, Taylor Clagett, who trained the players in the Netherlands, could unfortunately not come with us to the EC, but we miss him a lot. Nina, our team manager, and physio Tom also arrived that day.
At 1pm a bus took us to the practice location in Püspökszilàgy. This is such a small village that our bus driver could not find it, but everyone in the village knew we were coming, so a nice lady was waiting for us and guided us to the practice location. It is a beautiful place, just look at the pictures; great view, a nice field next to a big terrace and all the privacy we could wish for.
We unloaded the luggage and all the gear from the van. We put up the goals and showed everyone the new gear; beautiful helmets from Cascade, and a reversible and shafts for everyone. We also brought all the clothes for the players , coaches, and family and friends.
First everyone had to introduce himself to make sure that everyone knows everyone. We also had a gift for coach Demo and his wife, because he got married July 16th and didn’t go on a honeymoon, but came here right away; we really appreciate it!
After that we had our first practice, that everyone really enjoyed, despite the warm weather. At 7pm we had dinner on our big and beautiful terrace. Unfortunately it was not enough for our players, who eat a lot. But the major of the village himself went to buy couple of big pizza’s for us, to make sure everyone had enough to eat.
In the mean time we had to go back to the airport to pick up Ingmar and then drove back to Püspökszilàgy to drop him off. Afterwards we went back to Gödöllõ where we are staying.

Season 2015 -2016 Training Camp-1

Dear Lacrosse community,

As we are all aware, there is a battle to be fought “voor ons vaderland” next summer in Budapest. Let’s go get another medal for everyone to show their grandkids and demonstrate to the rest of the continent how the orange can bring the heat. “The Quest to Budapest” kicks off with the first MDNT Camp the 19th and 20th of September in Zwolle. In order to maximize our time together, we have adjusted the structure of our training weekends to be full camps 100% lacrosse focused from 10.00 hours Saturday until 17.00 hours Sunday, with game films and strategy sessions between practices and in the evening.

Unfortunately, Owen and Erik will not be able to join us on our Quest to Budapest due to their own professional success. We are grateful for their dedication and hard work to advance the MDNT and further the sport of Lacrosse in the Netherlands. They will be missed. We are pleased to announce that Taylor Clagett will be joining Jared and Peter to lead the Camps. Taylor is an American lacrosse player who has been around the game for a very long time. He started all four years during his collegiate career at the University of Notre Dame prior to being drafted to play professionally in the Major League Lacrosse (MLL). He also has ample experience coaching on the youth, high school, and college level and recently has been helping out with coaching the Norwegian National Team. We are certain that Taylor will be a great addition to our program.

The journey to and through Budapest will be long and memorable. There will be a number of regular camps that will empower everyone to grow as a player, so we invite all people with the desire and dedication to push themselves to grow into the best they can be by July 2016. The team for Budapest will be selected in early 2016, however players need to attend at least 75% of the camps in order to make the team, starting with the September camp. The dates for the following camps (subject to change) are listed below.

Additionally, we are aware of a renewed interest in the U-19 world championships and will be looking to form a team at the camps. Therefore, we invite the veteran players around the country to personally invite the young talent from their clubs to join them at the MDNT Camps. Please email us (mdntlax@gmail.com) with the names of three or more new players you feel could challenge for a spot on both the MDNT team, with the benefit of a full year of dedication and coaching, and the U-19 team. The aim is to prepare the best team possible for Budapest and the future, so we encourage all players to join the camps. This includes players who want to develop themselves further at the camps with a goal beyond the 2016 tournaments. We welcome all participants.

Please use the link below to register for the September 19-20 camp. There are only 52 spots available for staying overnight, so make sure to be the first one to subscribe! In case you are #53 or higher, you can still join the training and other sessions on both Saturday and Sunday but you’ll have to arrange your own sleeping spot or travel a little extra.

Costs for the September camp are € 82,75 however, since the MDNT is taking on 15% of these costs, you can enjoy an entire weekend of Lacrosse for only € 70,-. This price includes dinner on Saturday, beds incl. sheets, breakfast and lunch on Sunday. Remember to (i) bring your own lunch on Saturday and (ii) use the “NS Groeps Retour” to reduce travel expenses, see  https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0LJLpY4BBo0QUNwQjY4SVB1Z2M/view?usp=sharing for details!

As stated above, in order to make the team, players need to attend at least 75% of the camps. We would like to provide maximum flexibility and therefore count each camp as two days. This means twenty-eight days in total are planned now and players need to attend at least twenty-one days of those days. Although we would prefer for players to attend the entire weekend, players are allowed to attend individual days during the training camps and have these count towards their 75% requirement. The last three camps will be mandatory for players that have been selected for the EC2016 Dutch National Team / WC2016 U19 National Team.
