About Dutch Lacrosse

Ever since playing in its inaugural European Championship in 2004 in the city of Prague, Czech Republic, the Netherlands has strived to put their nation on the global lacrosse map and not just in individual tournaments, but also on a long-term basis. In 2013, a vision to 2028 has been laid down and the Development Programs for both the women’s and the men’s have been initiated. These are aimed at nurturing the level of coaching as well as pushing players to be the best and to take new knowledge back to their own teams in order to raise the competition and playing level within The Netherlands.

Denver 2014 Opponents: China

On July 11 at 8am, The Netherlands will take on China in their first game at the FIL 2014 World Championships in Denver. China is most certainly the least known opponent from the Green group. Let’s see what we can find out (Google is our friend).

Lacrosse is not really new in China, they have been playing lacrosse since the early 1990’s. In the first years development was slow, it has only recently picked up momentum. Lacrosse is mainly played in Beijing and Shanghai.

The China Lacrosse Association Limited (CLAL) submitted a joint FIL associate membership application in 2011 and was approved for membership at the 2012 FIL Board annual meeting on January 15, 2012. The FIL 2014 World Championships in Denver will be the first time they attend a World Championship.

Little information can be found about the Chinese Men’s National Team. They played in the Asian Pacific (ASPAC) Games in the summer of 2013, and finished fourth with wins over Thailand, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore. They seem to have a very competitive team! We look forward to playing them in Denver!
